YouTube TVs monthly subscription is about to get a bit more expensive with a $5 increase starting tomorrow. That makes today the last day that youll be able to subscribe at the old $35 / month price. The price increase was announced last month alongside the addition of a bunch of new channels, including TBS, TNT, CNN, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, truTV, Turner Classic Movies, NBA TV, and MLB Network. (New channels dont come cheap, apparently.) Anyone already paying the $35-per-month cost will be grandfathered in with the old rate, so if youve been thinking about subscribing to YouTube TV, today is probably a good time to do it if you dont want to get stuck with the higher price. For some quick comparison shopping, Hulus live TV service and Sonys PlayStation Vue also cost $40 per month. There are some cheaper options out there, like Sling TV (which starts at $20) and DirecTV Now (with a base price of $35). YouTube TVs biggest selling point, though, is Googles unlimited DVR policy, which offers an unlimited amount of cloud storage for recordings, which can be saved for up to nine months.
YouTube TV has grown quite a bit since its launch in April of last year. The service now has more than 300,000 users, according to a report, and is available in nearly 100 markets. That said, the service is raising prices tomorrow. Which means today is the last day you can subscribe to YouTube TV for $35/month. The price hike was announced last month, as the company plans to add more channels to the live streaming service. And, as a result, YouTube TV is going from $35/month to $40/month. YouTube TV launched with a wide variety of programming from networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CW, ESPN, AMC, FX, FXX, Disney Channel (plus Disney Jr. and XD), E!, USA, Bravo, Syfy, MSNBC, Telemundo, Sprout, Freeform, NatGeo and more. In February, the service added Turner-owned networks, including TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, HLN, truTV and Turner Classic Movies, along with NBA TV and MLB Network. Folks who have already subscribed to YouTube TV or do so today will be grandfathered in to the $35/month pricing. While YouTube TV continues to grow, the service faces steep competition by VOD streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, as well as Hulu with Live TV, which is said to have 450,000 pay subscribers.
Those already subscribing will retain the $35 per month price. Today is your last day to get YouTube TV for $35 per month. Tomorrow, the price increases to $40 per month, putting it in line with similar services such as Sony's PS Vue and Hulu's live TV plan. Google launched last April in a limited number of markets, but since then, it has grown significantly in both reach and offerings. Google announced the planned price increase last month as it added a number of new channels, including TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network and CNN to the service. Those who subscribe before March 13th will retain the $35 per month price.
